Team Nobody MMA
What's up family? I been gone for a minute, work stuff. I was actually sent back to California on an 8 week TDY (temporary duty) assignment. While it sucked to leave the house I just moved into, I was excited to get a "free" trip back to my other home (I now have 4 places I consider home). This trip allowed me to spend more time with my beautiful girlfriend and my friends/teammates. I was also able to see 3 of them fight and WIN!
First up was OG T4L Brute, Cesar "Cubby" Gonzalez. I drove down to San Diego from Lompoc, CA to watch Cesar fight. My goal was to get there for weigh ins, but traffic had other plans. About 7 hours later I finally met up with the team at the beach. Now before we even get to the fight, Cesar came out dancing in a way I have never seen him do before. The entire crowd loved the energy, maybe not his opponent's family but *shrugs*. Shout out to the announcer who butchered Cesar's nickname....there is no 'H' in Cubby....SMH. Back to business at hand, Cesar fought what could be considered a game but unprofessional opponent. The guy missed weight by a pretty decent margin and then had the audacity to trash talk and curse Coach Sonny, Cesar's head MMA coach. I have never seen someone overcome so much adversity, odds stacked against him, to win a fight. And to win it rather convincingly (that 1 judge was blind). Takes late notice fight in opponent's hometown, for a promotion that wants to build the opponent up, against an opponent that doesn't try to make weight AND breaks his LEG in the first round! Even through all of that Cesar had the more effective striking, grappling, and control. His broken leg caused him to throw the game plan out the window and "wing it", fighting a style that is not him. HE STILL WON THE DECISION.....ON 1 LEG!!
Next up, Blake "The Bat Man" Perry represented Team Nobody MMA and Hawaii. I was up in the Sacramento area meeting my girlfriend's family and we planned to purchase the fight on PPV, but a last minute decision saw us with 2 tickets and surprising everyone at the show. In his first MMA fight since moving to California from the Islands, Blake KO'd his opponent in the 2nd round. In the first round Blake controlled the action, pressing his opponent against the cage and kept him there. From there he landed the more powerful strikes and strikes overall, round ends. The referee signals the start of round 2 and Blake lands a beautiful straight right, takes him down, and lands rapid punches until the ref pulls him off. What we didn't realize until seeing the replay is that the straight right is what "took the opponent down", he was out. 2ND ROUND KO!!
Last but definitely not least, Terrance "Wrong Turn" Saeteurn takes the stage. Terrance is also a founding member of the T4L Brutes. I'll write up the story of the birth of the Brutes later. I drove up to Visalia to watch T fight what would be his last amateur fight and to defend his 559 Fights 125lbs title. T made weight like a professional, of course, but for some reason his opponent kept trying to size him up at weigh ins. This behaviors continued even after weigh ins. We ended up at this diner to eat "breakfast food" at like 2:30pm.....T wanted waffles or pancakes, something like that. But anyway, I never noticed but T said right before we left that the guy was in there and still eyeing him, staring at him. For what? If it was to sike T out, it didn't work. 1st round, Terrance dominates. Dominates striking exchanges, takedowns, grappling exchanges, everything. 2nd round, more of the same but with some VICIOUS body shots. Those body shots were the story of the night. Terrance proves that his opponent made a wrong turn signing that contract. 2nd round TKO to retain his 559 Fights flyweight title AND to become THE NEEEEEWWWWW CALIFORNIA AMATEUR MMA ORGANIZATION's 125lbs CHAMPION!! MF'n STATE CHAMPION!!!
Congrats team, super proud of y'all for all of the hard work and the run you're on!
This is just a snippet of the year, just the piece I was there TDY for. More happened and more is to come, trust me....
Til next time.....
